In this case the first question to ask yourself is which one do you need to focus on? It is always, in any business, restaurant or not, easiest to sell to the customers you already have. If you have a customer base then that is the first place to focus.

Market them customers:

Do you have a list of email list, do you have a company list, do you have clients business cards – If not it may be a good time to start.

How to collect this information?

When the clients calls to make a booking, during the conversation ask them about their business, get to know them, be cheeky and ask for contact information, tell them you will alert them about future offers and discounts etc

Have a drop in business card slot, this could be a in store competition to attract them to add to it but, make sure that when the draw is announce it is done fairly, get a customer involved, get pictures, display the pictures, use them with your local press, advertise the winner be it in the paper or on your own walls but, display the winner!

  • Offer coupons or specials of the month
  • At the least have a signup form on your website
  • Create monthly specials
  • What keeps your customers coming back?
  • Is it your prices, your food, your service or something else?

If you know what keeps your customers coming back then make that attribute obvious. If customers come back because of the amount of food they get, then great but are you making profits?

Let them know what they should be expecting when they come it and the reason they will want to come back (this is your USP – Unique Selling Proposition):

  • “Most food for your money”
  • “Best Thai food in town”
  • “Most fun you’ll have at a restaurant”
  • “For the perfect date”
  • “We dare you to try”
  • Give an offer they simply can’t refuse and that supports your USP.
  • Once you have them hooked…………………
  • They will return time and time again plus………
  • The best bit, they will recommend you
